“Surely the righteous will never be shaken;
they will be remembered forever.
They will have no fear of bad news;
their hearts are steadfast, trusting in the Lord.
Their hearts are secure, they will have no fear;
in the end they will look in triumph on their foes.”
– Psalm 112:6-8

A characteristic of the righteous is their steadfast trust in God. They know that He will defeat their enemies and deliver them.

This isn’t easy. It wasn’t easy for the Israelites when they were standing at the Red Sea. It wasn’t easy for David when he was surrounded by enemies. It wasn’t easy for Esther when it seemed like there was no hope of rescue for the Jewish people.

And it’s not today. It’s not easy when your boss tells you, “we’re going to have to let you go.” It’s not easy when the doctor says, “It’s cancer.” It’s not easy when trouble piles up around. If there weren’t the possibility of doubt, it wouldn’t be trust. If we knew what the outcome was going to be ahead of time, it wouldn’t be faith.

We do not have a fair weather Savior, he is there with us right in the midst of the hard times. When trouble comes, it is time to allow God to build your faith and grow your relationship with Him. We learn to trust Him. After we have walked through one trial, we will have greater faith for the next. God taught David to trust in him when he faced the lion, and then the bear, which gave him faith when he faced Goliath. That trust was necessary when he was on the run from Saul, even though he had been anointed king by Samuel. David trusted God and waited on his timing.

Make this Psalm your own. Give praise to God and say:

I will never be shaken, God will deliver me from this trial and it will be remembered.
I have no fear of bad news; myheart is steadfast and I trust in the Lord.
My heart is secure, I will have no fear; in the end I will look In triumph on my foes.
