Detailed Show Notes

You always know what really bothers the lame-o’s by the things they go to extra lengths to hide. Not only do they corrupt the transcript of every mention of Nabeel Qureshi’s name that I make in videos, but they hacked my computer and corrupted my download of this video. (I later realized that I was wrong about why they were erasing Nabeel Qureshi’s name, see “When Your House is Built on Sand“)

Houston Baptist University Rebranding Scandal

Timestamp: [00:25:00 – 00:27:40]

  • Houston Baptist University rebranded to Houston Christian University
  • Domain change from hbu.edu broke institutional history and credibility
  • Logical domain hcu.edu redirects to Heritage Christian University **
  • Suspected to be deliberate sabotage of university brand and reputation
  • Complete severance from established academic history and recognition

** Poststream note: I mention in the stream that my guess was that Heritage Christian University is unaccredited. Researching it to post the notes, Heritage Christian University is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education Commission on Accreditation. As there are also fake accrediting agencies, I looked up thishttps://www.hcu.edu/academics/accreditation/

It is accredited to issue three masters degrees by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools.

The Association for Biblical Higher Education Commission on Accreditation is authorized by CHEA to accredit “Institutions and programs in the United States, CAnada, and related territories that offer certificates, diplomas, associate, baccalaureate or graduate degrees aimed at preparing students for Christian ministries through Biblical, church-vocational, and general studies.”

In other words, it can only issue Christian ministry degrees. Heritage Christian University is in no way the equivalent of Houston Baptist University; however, I am sure Heritage Christian is now getting redirected traffic from people looking for the rebranded Houston Christian University.

Houston Baptist is not a “Christian ministry only” university. It has very strong business and nursing programs, actually their nursing program is one of the top in the state. I don’t know how it ranks officially, but I have been very impressed with their film program, which was also launched by John Mark Reynolds – the person who started the MAA in cultural apologetics – when he was the provost of Houston Baptist University. The HBU music program is stand out – not just for worship leaders, but for music in general.

Those are just the programs that I, personally, am aware of.

Houston Baptist University was started by the collective efforts in the General Baptist Convention of Texas; however, it’s faculty and focus has never been solely Baptist. The focus, rather, has been more of one of excellence and being a representative of Houston itself, both in the city’s innovation and diversity.
