Since this is the 4th of July weekend, the praise today is “America the Beautiful” sung by Judith Roberts and the choir at Second Baptist North.
We all know that July 4th, 1776, was the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed. But what about the 5th?
The fifth of July was the day that the declaration was disseminated and published, posted and sent to the troops 1“Creating the Declaration: A Timeline.” National Archives. It was the day that action was started to carry out that declaration.
Sometimes we have a big moment, a great revelation, or we declare a resolution. Those hilltop experiences are awesome, but they are completely meaningless if we don’t follow through with the action and walk it out.
So this song is a thank you to those early Americans who put their lives and resources on the line to carry out that commitment.
