America the Beautiful & July 5th: When Declaration Turned to Action

by | Jul 5, 2013 | Praise God | 0 comments

Since this is the 4th of July weekend, the praise today is “America the Beautiful” sung by Judith Roberts and the choir at Second Baptist North.

We all know that July 4th, 1776, was the day that the Declaration of Independence was signed. But what about the 5th?[1]  [2]

The fifth of July was the day that the declaration was disseminated and published, posted and sent to the troops.  It was the day that action was started to carry out that declaration.

Sometimes we have a big moment, a great revelation, or we declare a resolution.  Those hilltop experiences are awesome, but they are completely meaningless if we don’t follow through with the action and walk it out.

If the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed. John 8:36

So this song is a thank you to those early Americans who put their lives and resources on the line to carry out that commitment.

When I was little, we used to spend a lot of time at my cousin's house.  My mom and my aunt were best friends in high school and my cousins were very close in age to my brother and I.  Gina is a year old than me, Jason a year younger, and my brother is two years...

    Praise: God’s Great Dance Floor

This song has been playing quite a bit in our house lately. From what I gather, this was one of the theme songs at Second’s beach retreat this year.

At the end of each day, everyone at camp would go to a service. There would be music performances, and Dr. Young would speak. The deal was that every time this song came on, everyone would have to jump.

When Avery came home from camp, every time the song came on the radio she would tell her sisters they would have to jump.
