The other day I was scanning down the recent posts of my Facebook wall (have you noticed how little the default wall display shows now?) and saw a post a friend made sharing a link to a family’s holiday video.
You’ve probably seen it.
I don’t watch a lot of Youtube videos other than Tom and Ahava’s healing videos (which are awesome,) but the comments afterward made me wonder how controversial a video with preschoolers in it could be.
It is awesome! How much more fun would it be to get a Christmas update like this versus the dry and bland letters so many of us get.
But amazingly to me, not everyone feels that way. This is a snapshot of the comments that were on the shared link of my friend’s page.
If you have that many Facebook contacts that don’t like the video . . . I think you need to be examining yourself as to why you are attracting so many negative people.
My friends are awesome
There were a lot of other related shares of that story by my friends and my friends all loved it.
I think if I saw one of my Facebook friends slamming it I’d have to reassess that friendship. Who wants to be friends with people who are constantly looking for the negative and can’t recognize joy and love when they see it?
Christmas Memories
To me, that video is what Christmas is all about. Family and joy. Forget about the joy and sense of inclusion it brings to their family and friends, think about what a wonderful memory that will be for those two kids.
When things get tough, they can go watch their Dad bouncing around singing Christmas jammies and bragging about how awesome they are.
Maybe I just like it because it’s something my girls would do. They create song and dance performances to ask me if we can go out to eat. How can you say no to that?
This wasn’t their first family Christmas video, they also created one in 2012.
Spreading Joy
I’ve watched the video twice now and each time it’s lifted my spirit. How many people has this video brought a little big of Christmas joy to?
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. ~ Proverbs 17:22 NLT
A joyful heart makes a cheerful face, But when the heart is sad, the spirit is broken. ~ Proverbs 15:13 NASB
I think my favorite part is watching the excitement and joy on the faces of the little boy and girl. You can tell that they think it is the coolest thing ever.
But that joy is only a shadow of the joy that we have in Jesus. We can have that endless hope and relentless joy that I mentioned in my post about fighting the chaos.
Joy to the World
And just think about the excitement there must have been when Jesus was born.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. ~ Luke 2:10 NASB

Joy to the World by Chris Tomlin Lyrics
“Joy To The World (Unspeakable Joy)”
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her king
Let every heart prepare Him roomAnd Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven and nature sing
And Heaven, and Heaven and nature singJoy to the world, the Savior reigns
That all their songs employ
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plainsRepeat the sounding joy
Repeat the sounding joy
Repeat, repeat the sounding joyJoy, unspeakable joy
And overflowing where no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
Rises in my soul, never lets me goHe rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousnessAnd wonders of His love
And wonders of His love
And wonders, wonders of His loveJoy, unspeakable joy
And overflowing where no tongue can tell
Joy, unspeakable joy
Rises in my soul, never lets me go
