Reading through the Psalms Day 34: Psalm 34, 84, & 134

In these three Psalms, the writer encourages those who seek after God to praise him for his goodness. Psalm 34 is especially rich in David’s exaltation
in the Lord after God provided a way out of a difficult situation. He called to God and the Lord answered (vs. 6) and the confident declaration “the Lord’s angel encamps around those who fear him and delivers them” is a verse to keep close to our hearts whatever trials come.

As David often does in his Psalms, David transitions from speaking about his own circumstances to prophesy about the Messiah. In verse 20, he
prophesies “He protects all of his bones, not one of them is broken.” Like the Passover lamb whose bones could not be broken (Exodus 12:46,) none of
Jesus’s bones were broken at the crucifixion as the perfect Passover sacrifice (John 19:36.)

Psalm 34

1 * I will bless the LORD at all times.
His praise will always be in my mouth.
2 My soul shall boast in the LORD.
The humble shall hear of it, and be glad.
3 Oh magnify the LORD with me.
Let’s exalt his name together.
4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
5 They looked to him, and were radiant.
Their faces shall never be covered with shame.
6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him,
and saved him out of all his troubles.
7 the LORD’s angel encamps around those who fear him,
and delivers them.
8 Oh taste and see that the LORD is good.
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.
9 Oh fear the LORD, you his holy ones,
for there is no lack with those who fear him.
10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger,
but those who seek the LORD shall not lack any good thing.

11 Come, you children, listen to me.
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
12 Who is someone who desires life,
and loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
and your lips from speaking lies.
14 Depart from evil, and do good.
Seek peace, and pursue it.
15 The LORD’s eyes are toward the righteous.
His ears listen to their cry.
16 The LORD’s face is against those who do evil,
to cut off their memory from the earth.
17 The righteous cry, and the LORD hears,
and delivers them out of all their troubles.
18 The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart,
and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the LORD delivers him out of them all.
20 He protects all of his bones.
Not one of them is broken.
21 Evil shall kill the wicked.
Those who hate the righteous shall be condemned.
22 The LORD redeems the soul of his servants.
None of those who take refuge in him shall be condemned.

psalm 34:7 Reading through the Psalms

Psalm 84

1 How lovely are your dwellings,
LORD of Hosts!
2 My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD.
My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.
3 Yes, the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young,
near your altars, LORD of Hosts, my King, and my God.
4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house.
They are always praising you.
5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you;
who have set their hearts on a pilgrimage.
6 Passing through the valley of Weeping, they make it a place of springs.
Yes, the autumn rain covers it with blessings.
7 They go from strength to strength.
Everyone of them appears before God in Zion.
8 LORD, God of Hosts, hear my prayer.
Listen, God of Jacob.
9 Behold, God our shield,
look at the face of your anointed.
10 For a day in your courts is better than a thousand.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God,
than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
11 For the LORD God is a sun and a shield.
The LORD will give grace and glory.
He withholds no good thing from those who walk blamelessly.
12 LORD of Hosts,
blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Psalm 134

1 Look! Praise the LORD, all you servants of the LORD,
who stand by night in the LORD’s house!
2 Lift up your hands in the sanctuary.
Praise the LORD!
3 May the LORD bless you from Zion;
even he who made heaven and earth.
